The effectiveness of earthquake response depends on the existence of a centralized, single-command coordination structure that avoids conflicts of authority. In this context, it is envisaged that a Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) will be established within Organized Industrial Zones (OIZs).
AKOM will be responsible for planning, executing and coordinating pre-earthquake preparedness, response during an earthquake and post-earthquake recovery processes. It is essential that the Center be structured to operate in an integrated and coordinated manner with the fire department, particularly in order to strengthen emergency response capacity.
Balıkesir Organized Industrial Zone (BALOSB) plans to establish a Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) that will work in coordination with its Fire Department as part of earthquake preparedness and response measures. In this regard, the aim is to increase the level of disaster preparedness, accelerate response processes, and minimize possible loss of life and property.
